A joyful to do list for February
Anyone else feel like January simultaneously whizzed by and lasted forever?! I feel like Christmas was an eternity ago, but somehow I can’t quite believe that it’s February tomorrow already - time is weird.
Anyway, I’ve checked the calendar and since it is indeed going to be February tomorrow, I thought I’d better share a new joyful to do list. February can sometimes get a bad rep as a bit of a miserable month, but I really hope this list will help you to see that that doesn’t have to be the case...
Buy some fresh flowers
One of my favourite things about this time of year is the abundance of cheap fresh flowers in the supermarket. Sunshine yellow daffodils and pastel coloured tulips are the perfect way to brighten up your home during the winter months, and often you can pick a bunch up for a couple of quid. Plus, they’re a little visual reminder that spring is on it’s way!
Celebrate pancake day
The best day of February, am I right?! Whether you make big fat American style pancakes for breakfast, or savoury crepes for dinner, it doesn’t matter - just get in on the pancake action and make the most of what has got to be one of the funnest days in the calendar. I think I’ll be whipping up a batch of Ella Risbridger’s drop scone pancakes with butterscotch sauce from her beautiful book, Midnight Chicken & Other Recipes Worth Living For - they’re a staple in our house.
Look out for the first signs of spring
While spring doesn’t officially start until the equinox on March 20th, the first signs of the seasons changing usually start appearing this month. Keep your eyes peeled for snowdrops bursting through the ground, buds slowly starting to unfurl on trees, and of course, a gradual lengthening of our daylight hours. I always find this such a hopeful time of year - full of promise and excitement for the warmer months ahead.
Practice self love
February of course marks Valentine’s Day, and whether you have someone to celebrate it with or not, I think we should all be practicing a little bit of self love this month. Treat yourself to a massage, plan a cosy solo night in, or simply commit to being kinder to yourself - it doesn’t matter how you do it, but those small acts of self love can go a really long way.
Plan something fun for the 29th
This year is a leap year which means we get a whole extra day! Plus, that extra day happens to fall on a Saturday, which is totally a sign that we should all be making the most of it, right?! Plan something fun with friends, get out on that adventure you’ve been putting off, or even spend the whole day cosied up at home reading your book. Just make sure you make it count.
