My goals for the rest of 2022

At this time of year, our goals can often take a backseat. As the social commitments stack up and the weeks seem to be disappearing before our eyes, it’s easy to lose focus on the things that are most important to us. But it doesn’t have to be that way - a little bit of intention and reflection can help us to stay on track and end the year on a high.

With that in mind, I’ve spent some time recently reflecting on how I’d love to feel by the end of the year, and the goals that can help me to get there. I’d love to encourage you to do the same thing - take some time to picture how you’d love to feel come New Year’s Eve, and then try to get clear on what would have to happen or change in order for you to feel that way.

I feel so much more motivated now I know what I’d like to tie up before the year is out - here are my goals for the rest of 2022…

Read 13 more books

At the time of writing this post, I’ve currently read 67 books this year, and I’d love to read another 13 to bring the total for 2022 up to 80. I find that reading is the most enjoyable way for me to switch off and relax, and so setting a target will help me to prioritise some time with a good book during the busy season, in turn helping me to feel calm and well rested.

Finish our home renovations

In the last month or so we’ve been getting stuck into some home renovations, and while we’ve made good progress, there’s still lots we need to do! I’d love to be ending the year with our living room and bedroom fully redecorated, and to have our spare bedroom transformed into a nursery for our new little bub. Thankfully the nesting instincts have started to kick in, so that should help with this one!

Enjoy my book launch (and start planning book two!)

We’re just a few weeks out from the launch of my debut book, Choose Joy, and I am determined to enjoy every single second! I’ll be celebrating the launch with some of you lot during my book tour, but I also want to take some time with family and friends to savour this moment. I’d also like to be well on my way with writing book two before the year is out - watch this space…

Prioritise family time

Rather excitingly I’ve got a brand new baby niece due next month! I’ve tried to carve out lots of time in my diary to enjoy this special time with my family, and I’m determined to keep my to do list to a minimum during those first few weeks to soak up all of those newborn snuggles.

Get prepped for our new arrival

And of course, we need to get prepped for our own new arrival in the new year! We’re doing quite well at gathering everything we need (lots of thanks to friends and their hand me downs and our generous families for helping with this!), but we still have antenatal classes to attend, birth preferences to write, and of course, a mat leave to plan for! I’m hoping that by Christmas we can feel like we’ve got this all in hand and start the wind down to meeting our new bub.

Relish the festive period

I’m really looking forward to Christmas this year - it feels like the first one we’ve been able to plan for for quite some time! I’d really like to savour the festivities this year - I’ve got a wreath workshop planned, a couple of nice lunches and dinner with friends, and a weekend in London that I’m really looking forward to.

Embrace some much needed self-care

Finally, I’d really like to practice what I preach and embrace some self-care before the year is out. I’m sure that launching a book in my third trimester is going to be a tiring affair, so I’m planning to restore and recharge with a pregnancy massage, weekly prenatal yoga, and plenty of time spent watching films on our new sofa! Here’s hoping I can make it to Christmas feeling well rested despite a very busy diary.
