5 things helping me raise my energy at the moment

Every now and then I notice some key themes coming up in the work that I do with my coaching clients, and recently, it feels like energy has been on the top of everyone’s list to talk about. And I get it, because this year it feels like we’ve all taken a hit to our energy levels, doesn’t it?

Trying to navigate so much chaos and uncertainty can be draining, mentally and physically, and with so many of us still struggling to navigate this strange post-lockdown world, it’s little wonder that our energy levels have been depleted.

It’s something that I definitely noticed myself, and after a few months of feeling sluggish and unmotivated, I knew I had to do something about it. So, in case you’re feeling the same way, I thought I’d share the things that have been helping me raise my energy at the moment…

Daily movement

There’s tonnes of research out there that proves that exercise is great for building energy, and yet, whenever I feel the first wave of tiredness hitting, it tends to be the first thing I drop. In the last month or so though I’ve been prioritising daily movement - usually a jog or a HIIT workout - first thing each morning, and it makes such a positive difference to how I feel about the day ahead.

No-work weekends

I’ve written before about how during lockdown I found the boundaries between work and life blurring, but recently I’ve been making a real effort to keep my weekends work-free. It can be a tricky balance to strike when you work for yourself and there’s always more to do, but I know that having some time away from the laptop really re-energises me, which in turn makes me more productive through the week.

Consuming positive content

I know I’m not the only one who has been a bit too fixated with the rolling news cycle this year, and I found it was having a real negative impact on my mood. In the last few months I’ve been trying to ensure I’m consuming as much positive content as possible - funny podcasts, upbeat playlists, happy books and the kind of TV shows that leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy. It sounds simple, but it really helps!

Surrounding myself with positive people

The same goes for the people I’ve been surrounding myself. Of course, I’ve still been present and supportive for friends who are having a difficult time, but I’ve also made a real effort to surround myself with people with a really positive mindset, which in turn has definitely rubbed off on me. I’ve been part of an accelerator programme which has really helped with this and I love bouncing ideas around with like-minded people each day.

Paying attention to all areas of my life

Last but by no means least, I’ve been making a real effort to give all areas of my life equal attention, instead of just pouring all of my time and energy into work. Hanging out with friends, going out for a walk, exploring new places and cooking dinner with my husband are all activities that really top up my energy levels, so prioritising them keeps me feeling good.

How have your energy levels been recently?
