My autumn/winter bucket list

Today marks the first official day of autumn here in the northern hemisphere, and the signs are starting to show. From my window I can see the first leaves starting to yellow, and the last few days I’ve been noticing how chilly the air is when I pop out to collect our milk from the doorstep.

Whilst I’ve thoroughly enjoyed summer this year, I’m an autumn baby at heart, and I genuinely love the cosiness and excitement that the darker half of the year brings. I’m especially looking forward to making the most of the autumn/winter season this year seeing as 2020 was mostly spent at home, and so to help me to do just that, I’ve put a little bucket list together…

Spend lots of time outdoors

I think autumn is actually my favourite time to be outdoors - the crisp blue skies and gorgeous orange leaves just make everything look so beautiful. I’ve got a long list of walks I’d like to tick off in the coming weeks and months, and of course, if I can follow them up with a roast dinner in a cosy pub, that would be even better!

Savour all of the things we missed last year

Regional lockdowns meant that I missed out on all of my favourite autumn/winter traditions last year, and so I’m even more keen than usual to savour them this year. Things like watching the fireworks on Bonfire Night, Christmas shopping with my mum and sister and cosy family Sunday dinners will feel extra special.

Take our first trip abroad in a while

This autumn will mark two years since we last hopped on a plane and left the country, and with travel becoming more accessible, I’m hoping we’ll be able to break that streak and jet off somewhere in the next couple of months. I’ve so enjoyed exploring more of the UK in the last couple of years, but I have to admit I’m itching for a city break somewhere further afield!

Cook my way through the seasons

My husband has taken the reins on all things cooking in the last year or so to give me a little extra time to focus on my Masters, but now that that’s all done, I’d love to get back in the kitchen and try some new recipes from our many, many cookbooks. I’m hoping to host many evenings with our friends sitting around the table eating something delicious - bring it on.

Celebrate!

November will bring my 32nd birthday, my 2nd business birthday and my graduation, and I’m so looking forward to celebrating all three! I spent my birthday in lockdown last year, and while my husband made it extra lovely, I really hope I can see my family and maybe head out for a yummy dinner somewhere this year.

Make our home extra cosy

The last thing on my autumn/winter bucket list is to make our home extra cosy. I love quiet nights at home at this time of year (especially if Strictly is on!), and I want to spend some time decluttering and getting things looking really homely before the dark nights set on. And of course, I’ll have to treat myself to a few new autumn/winter candles too…
